Alcohol and Drug Treatment and Recovery

Drug or alcohol addiction is a disease that is treatable. Many studies have concluded that treatment of drug and alcohol abuse result in long-term abstinence and tremendous health/social/spiritual benefits to the patient. The CALDATA study ran for a periods of three to five years following treatment. It found that approximately 50% of the patients had continual abstinence and 74% demonstrated abatement of crime. The state of California enjoyed savings of $7.00 to every $1.00 spent on treatment. (Gerstein, Johnson, Harwood, et al., 1994; Mecca, 1997)
